This is one of the most informative discussion on Canadian Health care I have heard in many years.
My daughter is a nurse and chose to leave regular service. She left because the working conditions were intolerable and unsafe. The first intolerable was the attitude of hospital administrators to nurses. Second was that nurse stations designed for 6 nurses on a shift were only staffed with 2. The third intolerable was safety. Patients were injecting drugs into themselves and many were violent and psychotic.
She is now a full time firefighter and is much happier. She is the only RN at her fire station and frequently uses her nursing skills in emergencies. She takes a couple of nursing shifts a month to keep up her credentials.
